Marketing With a Smaller Budget - George F. Colony’s Blog

George Colony of Forrester Research recently blogged about marketing challenges and how to overcome them. Specifically, he writes about the shrinking budgets of many marketing departments. According to a Forrester survey or large companies, marketing budgets are down by 20% this year. The reasons for this curtailed spending are somewhat obvious — namely, the recession.

But Mr. Colony’s blog post is not really about the economy. It’s about doing more with less. He offers some useful marketing tips for business leaders, regardless of their budget.

I enjoyed his comments about bringing together the I.T. folks and the marketing folks to ensure website success. This resonated with me, because I used to be a marketing guy in a company that let the I.T. guys write consumer-facing content on the site. That is how we ended up with website instructions like this: “Please validate all fields prior to advancing.”

But I digress into the world of website usability, which is a dark and tangled forest. My point is, Mr. Colony’s blog post is worth a read. You’ll find plenty of other useful tidbits, as well.
