How I Publish 42 Blog Posts Per Week - Tips for Efficiency

During a recent blog consultation phone call, a curious client asked how many blogs I publish and how often I post new information. I told her that I currently average about 42 blog posts per week, across eight different blogs (this one is on the weekly rotation, by the way).

I didn’t think this was anything special. But she was surprised one person could publish so much blog content — ideally without sacrificing quality.

So I began to share some of things I do to save time, to generate blogging ideas, and to publish a high volume of blog posts without sacrificing quality. After the phone call, I thought: “Hey, this list of publishing tips would make a great blog post by itself.” So here I am, sharing most of what I told my client.

Blogging Efficiently: How to Publish More Blog Posts

This is not the only recipe for blogging efficiency. These are just some of the things I’ve learned over the years that help me generate more content in less time. I hope you find something helpful on the list!

  • I use Google Reader to put a wealth of relevant news and information at my fingertips. For example, one of my blogs is related to real estate and mortgages. So I can log in to that section of my Google Reader account, and with a single click I can see all of the latest headlines from CNN Money, Wall Street Journal, and several other sources. This gives me an endless supply of blog entry ideas. The same can be done for any topic or niche.
  • I take the news and information gleaned from the above technique and put my own spin on it. For example, I’ll take a news story that might interest my blog readers, and I’ll explain what it means to them. In this fashion, a single news story could generate a half-dozen blog posts or more.
  • I seek out and subscribe to a number of email newsletters relevant to the blogs I publish. This allows me to compile and build upon the research done by other publishers.
  • I set up Google Alerts to receive automatic notifications of relevant press releases, news stories and other types of web updates.
  • I use keyword research tools to develop content plans for each of my blogs, and to help me publish blog posts around topics that interest my readers the most.

You’ll notice that most of the things on this list share something in common. These techniques use the Internet to gather information in an automated way. If I need ideas for blog posts or website content, I simply check my email account or log into my RSS readers, and it’s there waiting for me. So instead of wasting time hunting for blog ideas or motivation, I simply sift through the ideas that come to me every day.

I said it at the beginning of this blog post, but I’ll say it again. The quality of your blog content is much more important than the quantity of content. In other words, a great blog post once a week is better than mediocre postings on a daily basis. With that being said, it sure helps your cause to publish new information on a regular basis. So I hope these tips and techniques help you do just that.
